Hanging out in my basement, a bunch of my friends and I were playing one of our favorite party games when discovered that people outnumbered table space. Using good old-fashioned American bootstrap ingenuity, I quickly grabbed a stack of my mother's old "The Golden Home and High School Encyclopedias" and handed them out. This is what we found inside - a collection of hilariously dated information from 1961.

Blackberry,
a berry-like fruit made up of a number of small parts crowded upon a fleshy container. The fruit is usually black or dark purple when ripe. Hundreds of species of blackberries are known throughout the world, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. The common garden blackberries are all natives of America, having been derived from several wild species. Blackberries are characterized by their black fruits, which when mature remain attached to, and do not fall from, the juicy receptacle. They are perennial plants, but the individual stems, or canes, of the plant are biennial in that they bear flowers and fruits the second year, after which they die. Blackberries are members of the rose family.
